Rainy day activities for the Sunshine Coast

Here's a list of experiences that will make your day and the most of a rainy day on the Sunshine Coast.

Adventures:

1. Visit an indoor playground such as Rush Adventureland which caters for ages 1- 14 years, starting with a toddler zone and going right through to Ninja activities.

2. Step into a Virtual Reality Adventure! Imagine slaying zombies, battling killer robots, or venturing through mind-bending mystical realms. Whether you find yourself on a remote island, aboard a spaceship, amidst a zombie apocalypse, or even on an entirely different planet, the virtual world is yours to conquer.

3. Try and indoor trampoline park: Bounce around and have a blast at Big Boing Indoor Trampoline park, which is sure to keep your children entertained rain or shine. Hour long sessions. Don’t forget to take some socks.

4. Try Indoor rock climbing: Head to one of the indoor rock climbing facilities, like Bould Move, for a fun and challenging activity that’s perfect for a rainy day.

5. Visit the Indoor roller skating rink in Caloundra or try ice skating during the summer months.

6. Go ten pin bowling! Visit one of the many ten pin bowling arcades on the coast. Some even have disco lanes, escape rooms and karaoke (plus a bar for the adults!)

7. Go snorkelling with turtles or swim with the whales: if the weather is showery, it makes no difference if you are already wet, right? Sunreef have learn to dive courses and all the gear you need.

8. If it’s not great beach weather, why not try out all the rides at Aussie World! They boast that it is even more fun in the rain!

Relaxing activities:

9. Visit SEALIFE  marine attraction at The Wharf in Mooloolaba. Explore 11 fun and interactive animal zones across three levels, including Little Blue Penguins, Tidal Touch Pool, Seahorse Sanctuary, Seal Island and the 80m Ocean Tunnel! With sea creatures of all shapes and sizes, from huge sharks to playful seal and adorable little blue penguins. While there, visit the shops, cafes, bars or take a boat cruise.

9. Visit the Ginger Factory and immerse yourself in captivating tours that unveil the secrets behind the world of ginger and the lifecycle of the honeybee.

10. Visit the Queensland Air Museum: Explore the fascinating history of aviation at this museum, which features a large collection of aircraft, engines, and aviation memorabilia. Take a guided tour with a former pilot or engineer.

11. Visit a Library: Spend an afternoon at the library, reading books, magazines, newspapers or surfing the net. Some libraries also host events such as author readings or school holiday activities.

12. Visit an art gallery or museum: Spend some time exploring the local art scene by visiting one of the art galleries or museums on the Sunshine Coast, such as the Caloundra Art Gallery, or head for the hills and visit the galleries of Montville or Noosa.

13. Relax at a day spa or have a massage: Treat yourself to a day of relaxation and pampering at one of the many spas in the area or try a Thai massage. Enjoy a facial, or unwind in a sauna or hot tub. Or try a bathhouse or float tank!

14. Explore the local shops: Browse through the indoor shops at Maroochydore or Kawana, where you can find everything from fresh produce to high fashion.

15. See a play! Have lunch or dinner then go see a play or musical at the Events Centre. Check their website for what’s on offer.

16. Go to the movies: Step back in time and see a silent movie at the beautiful Majestic Theatre in Pomona. Or catch the latest blockbuster or an indie film at one of the cinemas in the area.

17. Visit a brewery or winery: Sample some of the region’s finest craft beers or wines by visiting a local brewery or winery for a tasting session, or let someone else do the driving while you do the drinking! 18. Enjoy a cooking class: Take a cooking class and learn how to whip up some delicious dishes using fresh, local ingredients, then enjoy eating it all afterwards!

19. Cafés and Restaurants: Relax in cosy cafés, sip on hot beverages, and indulge in local cuisine. It’s a great opportunity to try out new restaurants or revisit old favourites.
